Lew practiced law on Main Street in Yarmouth since 1981, until he retired in August of 2018. He graduated from Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana in 1974 and from Franklin Pierce Law Center (now UNH Law School) in Concord, New Hampshire in 1979. His practice focused primarily on real estate, corporate and probate law. Lew served as counsel to many corporations and limited liability companies. The firm is fortunate to be able to continue Lew’s long history of providing excellent legal services in representing these clients. These businesses range in size from 1 or 2 to 100 employees. He lives on Chebeague Island and has been active for many years as both a member and president of the board of directors of Island Commons which is the assisted living home on Chebeague. He is also a member of the board of directors of Chebeague Transportation Co.

John has practiced law in Maine since 1980. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut in 1975 and graduated from its law school in 1979. Early in his career, he developed a strong interest in working with Maine families. John has represented hundreds of individuals during separation and divorce, and he continues to make this the focus of his practice.

His involvement in this area includes mediation, alternative dispute resolution, negotiation and, when necessary, litigation in all family matters, including divorce, rights of unmarried parents, visitation, child support, and protective proceedings.

In addition to family law, John practices in the areas of landlord/tenant relations and the law of wills and estates. For the past 30 years, John has lived with his family in South Portland, Maine. He is an active member of his church and has served with various school and civic organizations.

Fred has been practicing law since 1989. He is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts and has appeared before the bankruptcy courts in the Districts of Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Illinois, and New York. Fred graduated from Dartmouth College with a degree in History and then from Vanderbilt University School of Law. He practiced with a law firm in Portland, Maine before coming to Holman, Howard, Bopp & Guecia in 2018.

Fred’s practice has focused on significant complex commercial litigation (for both plaintiffs and defendants), the pursuit and enforcement of creditors’ and debtors’ rights and remedies, bankruptcies, reorganizations, insolvencies, liquidations, financial restructurings, sales, receiverships, contract review and negotiations, workouts, appeals, arbitrations, mediations, and related matters and proceedings. He is a longstanding trusted legal advisor to individuals and businesses in a wide range of engagements, both in and out of state and federal court, including numerous financial institutions, secured and unsecured creditors, receivers, business owners, landlords, tenants, acquirers of assets, healthcare and benefits administrators, manufacturers, Chapter 11 Creditors’ Committees, Chapter 7 bankruptcy trustees (in Maine and Massachusetts), and debtors. Fred has considerable experience representing clients in preference, fraudulent transfer, and director and officer litigation, relief from stay, allowance of claims, § 363 and receivership sales, Chapter 11, 12, and 13 plan confirmation, contract negotiations, and other bankruptcy and non-bankruptcy matters. He also serves as a mediator and arbitrates disputes as a member of the American Arbitration Association National Panel.

Cecilia J. Guecia

Cecilia has been practicing law since 2008. After graduating from Wesleyan University with a degree in History, she moved to New York City to work as an actress both on stage and in film. Cecilia moved to New Hampshire in 1998 in order to participate in a yearlong AmeriCorps program where she designed a literacy program that has since been replicated in literacy programs across the country.

After getting married and starting a family, Cecilia entered Maine School of Law. During law school Cecilia worked at the Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic, participated in the Protection from Abuse Program, and was a member of the Moot Court Board. Following law school, Cecilia completed a judicial clerkship in New Jersey and practiced with a litigation firm before returning to practice in Maine.

Cecilia opened her own firm in 2014 and joined Holman, Howard & Guecia in 2015. Cecilia’s practice of law provides a wide array of legal services for individuals, families, and small businesses. Cecilia handles wills, trusts and estates, guardianships, business litigation, high-conflict divorces, mediated divorces, property disputes, and foreclosure matters. Cecilia’s clients regularly return to her for consultation, negotiation, mediation, and litigation.

Cecilia and her husband, who is a cabinetmaker, live in Yarmouth with their two daughters. Cecilia is an active participant in Maine Attorneys Saving Homes. She served for two years as the Legislative Liaison for the Family Law Section of the Maine Bar Association and is a current member of the Board of Directors of the Maine Community Law Center.
